this solstice day
where darkness rules
and relinquishes all at once
where I am reminded
– even through
torrenting
clouds –
that with this
particular sunrise
our heartbeat-pulsing
planet turns our
northernmost hemispheric faces
toward sun and light
and warmth again
this solstice day
peace lives in knowing
that this annual moment
will happen today, and again,
and again in constancy
this solstice day
peace lives in knowing
the rhythms of this earth
hold my tiny-bright
life-spark cradled in
constancy’s change
this solstice day
when my tiny-bright
life-spark has eased
that much closer to
my life’s winter solstice
peace lives in knowing
the constant rhythm of
birth – life – death – birth
is the music leading
me in this dance
